First half of a study year

Ok. My first impressions about course I’m doing. Firstly to tell it was very difficult for me to understand people in my class at all. My English is not perfect but I can understand and talk a bit. But this Geordie accent was killing me. I could understand only half of that been said in class. I barely understood my tutors. It wasn’t just my problem. My international friend L.A. (she is from Thailand) had understanding problems as well. That’s why we made a team and tried together solve this problem. Her English is better than mine that is why her adaptation was faster and she helped me a lot. Thnks!)

My drawings

I prefer to draw with the use of coloured pencils. Most of my drawings are made in such technic. But sometimes i like to use oils, aquarelle or gouache. like this drawing above.

Why to be an advertiser.

I've spent 3 years studying French and English philology in University of Tarasa Shevchenko in Kiev. Kiev is my native city, it's in Ukraine. That time I couldn't even think that in couple of years I would be in Newcastle studying Creative advertising. Ok, back to that time. So I was studying Romano Germanic philology and it was very boring for me. My favorite hobby is to draw. The idea of how colors and lines can influence one's mind. Also I like to write. I didn't write anything serious yet but still I like to play with words to mix them as I do the same with color and lines. Lines...I love lines! I really think that lines contain all the power of emotions that stimulates imagination. For example panther: evenness and gracefulness of its strong body have formed for centuries of survival, hunt, and defeats. The ideal line of its body, that involuntary makes admire beauty and gracefulness of this really wild animal, has formed in the same way. Realizing that I seek to catch lines, as they are energized, and having caught them I try to use them in other objects, creating the illusion of one or another mood. Besides, I am keen on cartoons. I consider a real talent to bring characters into the world from nowhere, grant them, with just few strokes, such emotions and leave them in hearts of viewers forever.

Returning to my university time. I spent three years in university and in the beginning of the fourth studying year I broke my right arm. I couldn't write, draw or do anything with my right hand for almost half a year. It meant that I would skip one studying year. Half of year past and my arm got better. I decided to find a job for a second half of year. So I started to think about the sphere of job that I can do and that would be interesting for me. So I made a list of skills that I had. First of all I can draw and I think I have an imagination, a least I love colors and I love to mix them, so it is interesting for me. Then I have some communication skills. I knew computer programs that are used in creating different kind of computer graphics. Beside the all mentioned I loved ads!!! I watched almost all Canes Lions. So it was decided I wanted to work in advertising agency. It was a luck by itself. The first agency I tried needed a cartoon logo for winter ski resort "Bukovell". They wanted me to draw a funny child of yeti. It was luck because cartoons is my favorite genre of drawings. (you can see some of my drawings in the bottom).They loved my drawing and gave me a placement as a graphic designer. So that is how I've got a two year experience of work in advertising agency. It was fun and I was amazed and enraptured by the possibility to influence collective opinion through visual and audio stimulating effect. When a choice of the person depends on somebody’s brain wave implemented in the advertising spot or advertising campaign dummy. That is where I realized where I want to work and whom I want to be. I quit my university and started to browse different countries for college or university where I can study this subject as in my country this industry is not very developed and I wanted to get the best experience and knowledge. Firstly I tried France and Belgium for art schools. Found a couple. Then I found few in USA. But the choice fell on a Great Britain because I already had a study course at Saint Martins College and by the way my cousin was doing her bachelor degree at Marangoni University in London. I've sent a letters and my works to different colleges in U.K. and I've got an acceptance from the most of them. But i decided to go to Newcastle college because I was pleasantly surprised by the program that suited the most for my expectations and there were trips to real famous agencies especially in New York. I've visited Newcastle college on open days and I loved my future tutors and the atmosphere. I liked the idea that our class area was separated from main Mandela art school. I had a feeling that it was a real small advertising agency. That is when I became very confident in my choice towards Newcastle college and by the way I loved Newcastle city. It is inspiring!
